Custom domain requires the SMALL plan or above.
You can use a primary domain www.mydomain.com
, "naked" domain mydomain.com
(no “www”) or a subdomain muut.mydomain.com
. An “alternate” domain allows your community to be reached from a second location or domain. If you intend on using a primary domain with the “www” prefix then you’ll need to add both www.mydomain.com
and mydomain.com
. You’ll need to change one or two settings on your domain to keep everything talking, though. Typically you’ll do this at the third-party website where you registered your domain (like Network Solutions & GoDaddy).
Log into your domain registrar’s site. You should be able to find your DNS settings in a section labeled something to the extent of DNS Manager or, "Zone File Settings."
Here you should be able to create the "records" you need to make your domain talk to your Muut community.
Do not add
http://
orhttps://
to the records below. Doing so will break the space-time continuum. And your website.
Subomains (such as muut.mydomain.com
):
Your DNS Manager should have a section allowing you to edit CNAME Records or simply, "Add Record." The subdomain you’ve chosen belongs in the “Alias / Host Name” category. So if you wanted users to find your community when they typed in muut.mydomain.com
then in “Alias / Host Name” you would type muut. Follow the table below for the rest of your CNAME Record settings
Records / Record Type | Alias / Host Name | Points to |
---|---|---|
CNAME | [subdomain] | hosted.muut.com |
"Naked" Domains (such as mydomain.com
):
Your DNS Manager should have a section allowing you to edit A Records or simply, "Add Record." Use the A Record (aka Host Record) settings below to allow visitors that type your domain to find your community.
Records / Record Type | Alias / Host Name | Points to |
---|---|---|
A | @ | 54.165.174.157 |
Primary Domains (such as www.mydomain.com
):
The dream of the 90’s is alive at Muut. So, we totally get why you just gotta have the "www" prefixed to your domain. You’ll want to add a CNAME Record in your DNS Manager in addition to an A Record (just like a naked domain).
Records / Record Type | Alias / Host Name | Points to |
---|---|---|
A | @ | 54.165.174.157 |
